Confrontation Mirror - 06.06
In this exhibit visitors are given the opportunity to learn that things are not always what they seem to be. By varying the light source in front of a mirror, two persons sitting on each side of a mirror can combine their faces into a single hybrid image with features from both.
A mirror is a surface with good specular reflection that is smooth enough to form an image. On mirrors there is a thin deposit of chromium. This layer of metal reflects some light, but lets an equal amount of light pass through. By adjusting the illumination onto the mirror, the amount of light reflected and passed through the mirror varies, making it possible to see through the mirror.
- Sit down on the chair with a fellow visitor on the other side.
- Change the intensity of the light with the turning wheel.
- Observe how your face is combined with your fellow visitor on the other side of the mirror.
